Our journey with KTMB began in 2022 with a simple but meaningful collaboration, where Famsy supplied canvas bags as part of their merchandise needs. What started as a product-based project eventually grew into a deeper understanding of KTMB’s brand, audience, and long-term potential in the merchandise space.
By 2025, the conversation evolved. KTMB’s merchandise team regrouped with us, not just to create another set of items, but to explore a fresh direction for the brand. This time, the focus was bigger than production. It was about reimagining how KTMB merchandise could feel more current, more collectible, and more connected to the people who use their services every day.
The project became a new chapter for both KTMB and Famsy: a chance to transform familiar corporate merchandise into something that could speak to a new generation while still carrying the identity and legacy of one of Malaysia’s most recognized transport brands.
Challenge
KTMB recognized that their merchandise needed to move beyond the usual corporate approach. Their previous items served well for mass audiences, internal use, and corporate purposes, but the brand saw an opportunity to reach a wider and more lifestyle-driven audience.
The goal was to appeal not only to existing KTMB customers, but also to tourists, younger commuters, collectors, and everyday travelers who would be drawn to merchandise that felt fun, relevant, and easy to use. KTMB wanted designs that were less rigid, less formal, and more visually engaging, while still staying respectful to the brand’s heritage and public image.
The challenge was to find the right balance: creating merchandise that felt fresh and youthful without losing KTMB’s identity. It needed to be modern enough to attract a new demographic, but still polished enough to represent a national railway brand with history, trust, and recognition.
Famsy Solution
We stepped in to overhaul their merchandise aesthetic, getting heavily involved in the design process.
Famsy came in with a design-first approach, working closely on the overall visual direction and merchandise transformation. Instead of treating the products as basic logo placements, we focused on creating a stronger story through the graphics, colours, and overall product appeal.
We developed a new aesthetic that felt cuter, friendlier, and more approachable, helping KTMB break away from the traditional corporate merchandise look. The designs were made to feel more collectible and lifestyle-friendly, so the items could be appreciated not only as souvenirs, but also as everyday products people would actually want to buy, use, and keep.
At the same time, we made sure the creative direction still respected KTMB’s heritage. The designs carried enough personality to attract younger audiences and tourists, while maintaining the professionalism and recognisability of the KTMB brand. The result was a merchandise collection that felt refreshed, relevant, and ready for the public.
Wow factor
The biggest success of this transformation is that the merchandise did not remain as just an internal corporate item or a one-time campaign piece. It became something visible, accessible, and actively sold to the public.
KTMB’s revamped merchandise can now be found at real physical locations, including major stations such as KL Sentral. This means tourists, daily commuters, railway enthusiasts, and everyday Malaysians can discover and purchase the items directly as part of their travel experience.
What started as a merchandise revamp became a brand touchpoint. Each product now carries KTMB’s identity beyond the train ride itself, turning everyday items into memorable keepsakes. Through this collaboration, KTMB successfully moved into a more modern merchandise direction, while Famsy helped bring that vision from concept to station shelves.
