How Famsy created Wah Chan’s CNY blind box
plushie that secretly hides a full reusable shopping bag inside — designed,
produced, and delivered to every outlet before the campaign launched.
Story
Wah Chan, one of Malaysia’s most trusted gold jewellery retailers, wanted to do something different for Chinese New Year 2026. They had a beautiful set of CNY gold charm designs — and they wanted to bring those designs to life as a gift-with-purchase that customers would actually use long after CNY was over. Not just collect. Use.
Challenge
The brief had several layers of complexity. Famsy needed to create a range of custom plushie designs that were faithful 3D translations of Wah Chan’s actual gold charms — exact character matches, not
approximations. Each plushie also had to secretly conceal a full-size reusable shopping bag inside it — hidden behind a zip on the plushie’s back, so that when the bag is unfolded, the plushie clips on as its own mascot charm. And the entire collection had to be packaged as a blind box, so customers wouldn’t know which design they’d receive until they opened it.
On top of the product complexity, the campaign timeline was tight. Wah Chan needed everything ready before the festive season opened — which meant Famsy had to move fast across design, prototyping, production, and fulfilment all at once, with no room to run these stages in sequence.

Wah Chan handed Famsy their charm artwork. Famsy handled everything else — including an idea they hadn’t thought of.
Famsy proposed building a hidden reusable shopping bag into the plushie itself. Each plushie has a discreet zip on its back. Open it, and a full CNY-printed reusable bag unfolds — complete with festive gold charm patterns. The plushie then clips onto the bag’s handle as a permanent mascot charm, so the bag is instantly recognisable as a Wah Chan piece wherever it’s carried. One product. Two surprises. Lasting use.
Famsy’s team worked closely with manufacturing partners to oversee every stage of prototyping and sample approval — making sure each plushie looked exactly like the real Wah Chan charm before production began. Once approved, Famsy managed the full production run: every unit individually foil-wrapped in blind boxes, quality-checked at Famsy HQ, and delivered directly to Wah Chan’s outlets across Malaysia. Wah Chan needed no warehouse, no logistics team, and no last-mile coordination — the stock arrived at each outlet, ready for the shelf.
Wow factor
Wah Chan needed everything in place before the campaign opened — and it was. Every outlet received their stock on time, with zero logistics burden on the client.
But the real wow was in the hands of Wah Chan’s customers. They picked up a mystery blind box, unwrapped a beautifully crafted plushie that was a perfect 3D replica of a Wah Chan gold charm — and then discovered there was a second surprise waiting inside: a full CNY reusable shopping bag, folded neatly inside the plushie’s back. Unfold the bag, clip the plushie to the handle, and the GWP transforms into something people carry to the market, the mall, and everywhere in between. Long after CNY ended, the Wah Chan plushie-bag was still out in the world — a walking, reusable brand ambassador.
